What Parents Should Know About Milk, Junk Food and Teen Acne

by Wycliffe Williams

You are what you eat. How can growth occur without food? The food choices many of us make from rising first thing in the morning, through to going back to bed at night, are unhealthy and damaging.
Tell you what! Do this. Keep a written record of everything you eat for a 24 hour period. In short, you would be shocked-probably ashamed as well. The march toward teen acne begins the minute our parents place that first glass of cows milk on the table before us. Moreover, we exacerbate an already bad situation when we chose to eat junk food.

Lets face it, cows milk is meant for baby cows, not for our baby children. Let me dive right into the problem that I have with cows milk. My family does not drink cows milk. A few specifics why.
After pasteurization, regulators tell us that milk should contain no more than 20,000 bacteria per milliliter. In addition, it shouldnt have anymore than 10 coli form bacteria in each milliliter. What this boils down to is that, a 10oz. glass of cows milk may contain 5 million bacteria and still be acceptable for human consumption.
This type of bacteria intake overpowers the gatekeepers to an adult immune system. Paving the way for the unchecked, free movement of other bacteria, acne and viruses that attack the body. Worst of all, if milk wages this type of assault on an adult body, what chance does a child stand or for that matter a teen with a developing immune system?

Lets suppose that the bacteria in milk does not exist. I know, I know! Work with me, Im only trying to highlight a point. Lets jump ahead to coli form bacteria. This bacteria is found in the stool of a cow! Got that! The stool! Need I bang this home anymore? I didnt think so. In a nutshell, these bacteria ravage the body. Then acne piggybacks, or gets an unhindered ride as a result.
Worse still, the regulatory body that sets these standards, anticipates the myriad contaminants in milk! Milk causes excess mucus in the system, thereby slowing things down.
It attacks and binds vital organs, unduly taxing them and stressing them out. Additionally, it does a good job in causing dirty or unclean blood. This type of ambush robs the system of its ability to attack invaders. Once forced into a defensive mode, the body becomes prone to the onslaught of acne and other diseases.

Fact is, the external appearance of acne in teens and acne in adults can be compared to a warning shot across the bow. It is truly indicative of an unclean interior, and at this point, intervention is needed.
Recently I was in conversation with a friend who is a computer technician. I told him that computers made mistakes. He contends that the problem lies with the people operating the computers. He capped off the discussion by saying, garbage in garbage out.
Then it hit me, thats how many of us are with our eating habits. We put garbage in, and when garbage comes out in the form of acne, we are mystified.

Hold that thought! This is going to surprise you. Chocolate cake (which I love), doesnt cause acne. It doesnt cause teen acne nor does it cause adult acne. Pizza and soft drinks do not cause acne. However, the cumulative result of years of putting this garbage in, eventually leads to garbage out and many times the garbage on the outside is in the form of teen acne and adult acne.

In sum, a written record may indeed shock us into action, and force us to get a grip on the foods we consume; since we are what we eat.

The Unspoken Horror Of Adult Acne

by Frank Cordova

Did you know that more than 25% of the adult population worldwide suffers from acne? If we leave the pages of statistical data and look at people with plain eyes it will be hard to find a man or a woman who did not suffer the gnawing problem of zits. However, even though this problem is "skin deep", its effects germinate into bouts of despair and social angst, which jeopardizes quality of life.

Digging Into The Roots Of Adult Acne

Sebum secreted from the hair follicles moves to the skin pores and lubricates the skin. But sometimes the oil glands expand, producing an excess of sebum, which ultimately gets trapped in the hair follicle and clogs the pores. These clogged pores permit bacteria and growth of Propionibacterium acnes. This bacteria causes inflammation of the hair follicle and the surrounding skin and thus acne emerges.

Though till now the exact causes of adult acne are not known, most of the theories suggest hormonal imbalances as the root cause. Some other causes proposed are evolutionary biology, diet, stress, vitamin deficiency and the list goes on.

Some Effective Treatments To Get Rid Of Adult Acne

Studies reveal that Vitamin A plays an important role in the reduction of serum and keratin production and thus minimizes their growth in follicle comedos. So, nourish your system with Vitamin A and take at least five servings of vegetables and fresh fruits daily. However, always consult a doctor before starting up with any kind of regime.

Zinc is an important element in treating acne too. Zinc enhances the functions of Vitamin A and lends a helping hand in the healing and regeneration of tissues. Zinc also reduces the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, which shrinks sebum production.

Most acne sufferers lack Selenium, which plays a crucial role in the action of the enzyme Gluthathione Peroxidase that prevents the inflammation of the hair follicle. Vitamin E minimizes this process and plays a vital part in the action of Vitamin A and Selenium.

Friendly bacteria, Acidophilus, can check injurious intestinal bacteria including yeasts such as Candida albicans. You can take in Acidophilus either in gel capsule form or as yogurt with live culture.

Benozyl peroxide reduces pimples and is effective for acne. You can have it in cream or lotion form.

Creams containing sulphur are also useful in treating acne

Medications containing iodide and bromide can worsen your acne condition so stay away from such products.

All these things are medicines, all of which may have side effects and should not be taken without a prescription and the guidance of a doctor.

Good News For Foodies

You will be glad to know that chocolate or fried foods do not cause acne. These foods are often seen as unhealthy food habits and therefore "must be" related to skin breakouts, but this theory has no scientific backing.

However, foods which are high in refined sugar, trans-fatty acid (milk products) oxidized fatty acids (fried oils) and synthetically hydrogenated vegetable oil contents may not cause acne but are definitely not very good for your health, and so an excess of these foods should be avoided. You can be infected with intestinal toxemia if your diet is low on fiber and essential vitamins and high on these contents. The result of glut of toxins may show on your skin.

Some Natural Remedies Of Adult Acne

The good news about the use of natural things is that they come without the risk of side effects.

Name And Fame Of Some Natural Ingredients

Azelaic acid

This acid makes the keratin production stable and you will get almost same results as using Benzoyl- Peroxide or oral antibiotics.

Tea Tree Oil

Reduces acne with its antibacterial and antifungal qualities.

Green Tea

A renowned antioxidant, which trims down inflammation and infection

Topical Vitamin C And E

Both are strong antioxidants, which improve skin condition by diminishing inflammation and infection.

Fruit Acids (AHAs And BHAs)

These acids gently exfoliate your skin, leaving it smooth.

Some Tips To Control Outbursts Of Adult Acne

  1. Cleanse your face with a mild soap or sulphur soap but do not rub your face with a towel.

  2. Never ever pick or squeeze the zits, it will only worsen your skin condition.

  3. Some acne treatment products will hike up your skin's photosensitivity so when you are using these products, use a sunscreen and wear a hat when you are out. Avoid the tanning booths while using these products as well.

  4. Try to avoid the use of oil-based products on your skin. To prevent the clogging of pores use only "noncomdomedogenic" skin products

  5. Try to avoid friction from sports equipment and airborne grease from fast food places; these can make your acne worse.

  6. Along with a good diet include at least 8 to ten glasses of water in your daily regimen to keep your system clean and the skin glowing

Choosing the right path will help your skin get rid of adult acne scars. Make your skin dazzle with a smooth glow by following the tips in this article.

Acne Care Herbal Skin

Infant Acne

by Heather Owens

When we picture a baby, we tend to have a stereotyped image of a pink, glowing little face that is almost overwhelmingly cute. The last thing we think about is pimples. And yet, the reality is that infant acne occurs on the faces of many babies. Usually it starts between three and four weeks of age, but sometimes it can even be present in newborns.

It can be a little distressing for the parents to see little red bumps all over their precious baby's face, but the good news is that infant acne is temporary, and doesn't require any treatment. However, it can stick around for a little while, and may only disappear gradually. It's quite possible that infant acne may come and go spasmodically until the baby is six months old.

I remember very well when my daughter broke out in infant acne at the tender age of three months. Her previously cute and adorable face was dotted with little red bumps, and even a good collection of whiteheads. I found it quite distressing, and so asked my doctor to tell me more about infant acne.

The doctor was very patient and helpful, and explained a lot more about this skin condition. I hadn't realised that the baby still had hormones in her system, that had crossed over while I was carrying her, via the placenta. Infant acne is to a great extent visible evidence of the hormones still being active, but it also shows that the baby is in the process of working the hormones out of her system for good.

In many ways, the baby's skin is simply going through a cleansing process, as the baby's system cleanses itself of the unwanted hormones. Different babies respond in different ways (many of them you wouldn't even be aware of), and one way is infant acne. It's all part of a natural process in the baby's system, and there's really nothing we, as parents, can do to stop it. In fact, it's important to let the process continue to the end, otherwise the baby's system may struggle to remove all the excess hormones.

Unfortunately many parents think that infant acne is caused by dirty or oily skin, and so wash baby's face more frequently to get it clean. This is actually one of the worst things you can do, as frequent washing may well result in the skin becoming inflamed. So remember that it's hormones, not oil or dirt, that's the problem. Detergents, milk and spit-up can make acne worse, so although you don't want to overwash the baby, it's important to mop up any spills quickly. Use a mild detergent, and make sure baby's face is always uncovered. Even your baby's favorite blanket can aggravate infant acne, if it's been washed in a strong detergent and is constantly held against the face.

All of this can seem a little disheartening, particularly if you are keen on photographing your baby's gorgeously cute smile with your camera at every opportunity. If your baby gets infant acne, you can expect to have that beautiful smile surround by little red dots for up to six months. But it's not worth worrying about - who's going to look at the acne when your baby's smile will completely outshine it?

Homemade Remedies On How To Get Rid Of Pimples - Be Your Own Doctor

by Robert Sheehan

Nothing could be more annoying than to find a pimple on your face one fine morning. It becomes worse if it happens before a big event, which you have to attend. There are some homemade remedies on how to get rid of pimples, which give quick results and are easy to apply.

Some Homemade Remedies

Always remember never handle a pimple. The pimple becomes more inflamed. Handling spreads bacteria and germs, which caused the pimple, to other parts of the face and may cause scars.

Every half an hour hold an ice pack against the pimple for 2 minutes to reduce the inflammation. Holding a tea bag or a cotton ball dabbed in lemon juice against the pimple can also reduce the inflammation. A dab of toothpaste (not gel) applied before going to bed can also be soothing.

Apply a cream or ointment containing benzene peroxide or salicylic acid on the pimple or your entire face. Dont apply too much as these creams can dry the skin. Dont use it if your skin is sensitive.

If you have no time for remedies and want to hide the pimple then cover the pimple with a flesh colored concealer. The concealer also hides the oily shine.

Wash your face 2 or 3 times a day with lukewarm salted water. Do not use soap as it dries the skin and may aggravate the pimple. Lukewarm salted water removes the oil without drying the skin too much.

You may also use unscented soap or a specialized acne cleanser at home that contains no harsh chemicals such as lye. Gently scrub the skin dry with a soft cloth. Hard rubbing might let out the skins natural oil, which helps contain the spread of the pimples.

Whenever possible wear an oil free make up. They prevent pimple build up that cause scars. Remove the make up every night and clean the face with an acne-fighting medicine to remove oil, dirt and bits of make up from within the skin.

Eat lots of fruit and vegetables and drink lots of water. Garlic Juice with 3 parts water is an excellent cleansing agent. Raw garlic applied (rubbed) on the face can make persistent pimples disappear without a scar with repeated applications.

Following these tips will get you results within a few days. If your pimples are a recurring problem then drinking lots of water, proper diet and facial masks are the long-term remedies. In case of major outbreaks consult a doctor for specialist advice.

Environmental Causes of Adult Onset Hormonal Acne

by Naweko San-Joyz

Dont listen when they tell you, Youll grow out of it.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology your typical acne sufferer is now 26 years old. Why is that? You could blame it on hormones. But there is another covert explanation.

Acne is not a simple, skin condition. Multiple factors can contribute to one case of acne. Yet one issue has long been overlooked in the mounting cases adults with hormonal acne, and that factor is the environment.

Take for example an entire city in Italy that one-day found itself crowded with citizens battling acne.

It was a calm Saturday in the summer of 1976 that turned into a toxic inferno for the people of Seveso, Italy. The cause- a failing chemical blew a cloud of white poison called trichlorophenol into the air.

Heat from the reaction transformed the trichlorophenol into a one of the most deadly chemicals know at that time: TCDD or dioxin.

Dioxin is an oily powder that sticks to the skin. This poison is spread by the wind and rain. Only the sun can break this poison down over a span of several years.

Months after the explosion locals suffered from damaged internal tissue and farm animals would drop dead in fields. People also developed bumps, blisters and chloracne- a form of acne caused by chemical poisoning.
Moreover, locals developed blackheads and other acne lesions because the dioxin forced the body to produce excessive amounts of keratin, the protein found in hair, fingernails and skin. This buildup of keratin clogged the pores and caused pimples and blackheads.

Ironically, we, as consumers could be making dioxins every day in our own home.

Almost every home has a product that contains triclosan. This anti-bacterial agent is used to make cosmetics, anti-microbial creams, lotions, hand soaps, dish soaps and even acne treatments.
Nevertheless, researchers from the University of Minnesota demonstrated that triclosan could be producing dioxins in the presence of sunlight.

Dioxins do not degrade over time and they can accumulate in body tissues and can eventually to lead to health problems. Even low levels of dioxin are a problem because of their tendency to accumulate along the food chain. For instance, since dioxin accumulates in the fats tissues, and so dioxin may be found in fish, eggs, milk, chicken and beef.

Thus, the link between acne and milk may not be only a hormonal issue, but a result of environmental pollution.

Dioxin is not only linked to acne, but to other rising health conditions like asthma and attention deficit disorder.

Making a substantial reduction in environmental dioxin levels is a nationwide effort. However you can limit your exposure to dioxins right now by avoiding the use of pesticides, drinking filtered water and by eating less meat products.

Skin Care - Acne

Acne - The Causes

by Paul Cris

When an individual attains his period of puberty, the male hormones present in the adrenal gland of both boys and girls, stimulate the oil glands present underneath the skin. In the usual process, these oil glands lubricate and protect the skin through the openings called pores. But sometimes, the cells that are located near the openings of the skin, block the pores present. In this case the oil content gets accommodated below the skin surface. Therefore, the germs such as bacteria or any other microorganism present in the blood prey upon this oily food. These organisms later on multiply and cause irritation to the surrounding tissues.

Due to the inflammation of skin various types of bumps are noticed. You develop a pustule if the itch persists near the surface. If it gets deeper you get a pimple, which is also known as papule and if it is still deeper it results in cysts. When the pores close with the sebum content on the surface and bulge out, it is whitehead and if the oil gets rusted due to the opened pores you will notice a black colored swelling called blackhead.

The origin of pimples is still unknown. There are still a few issues, which have not been brought to light. Nobody exactly knows why the pores collapse and pack the sebum content within the skin area underneath or nobody has studied as to how this process spreads from one sebaceous gland to another.

The causes of developing adult or teen acne may be mainly due to hormone factor, or heredity, diet factor, vitamin deficiency, stress and much more. It is not at all simple to explain why a disease like acne happens to many of the teenagers.

Paul has been providing answers to lots of queries through his website on a wide variety of subjects ranging from satellite phones to acne. To learn more visit

Photodynamic Therapy Acne Skin Care

Blue-light Therapy for Treating Acne - Terrible or Terrific?

by Martin Hansen

Contemplating how to get that clear beautiful complexion? The latest advance in laser technology could make this more than a pipe dream for acne sufferers. The technique is called BLU-U for short, basically because it involves the use of visible blue light.

How does blue light affect acne?

To answer this question let us briefly recapitulate what acne really is. Acne is simply the term used to describe the clogged pores (pimples, whiteheads, blackheads or lesions) that occur on your face or on other parts of your body. The cause of acne comes from a disorder of the skins oil glands. These oil glands produce a substance called sebum, which is constantly secreting through openings in the skin.

In some cases cells that are too close to the openings of these oil glands actually end up in the way and block the opening. As a result, oil builds up underneath the skin and provides a wonderful feeding ground for the nasty bacteria that simply multiply and cause acne.

What the blue light does is trigger the proliferation of photo sensitizers (so called porphyrins) in the acne causing bacteria. This creates a toxic environment, which destroys the acne bacteria themselves, thereby eliminating a major culprit in the process of producing acne.

What happens during a treatment session?

Blue-light therapy typically requires 16 minutes per treatment session. Patients sit in a chair while the therapeutic light is applied. Apart from an occasional, slight warming sensation, BLU-U light treatments are described as easy, even relaxing.

Typically, blue-light treatments are given twice a week for four weeks, then once a week for four weeks. Experts in photodynamic therapy generally recommend that patients do not miss any treatment appointments in order to see maximum results. BLU-U effectively clears 70% of moderate, inflammatory acne in 4-8 weeks, and best results are achieved when used with conventional treatments, such as topical creams and oral antibiotics.

BLU-U is FDA approved and is considered one of the safest acne treatments available. It has no known side effects. Some health care professionals like to say that teenagers can expect results to last for a year, while many grown-ups can expect them to last a life time. However, varying results should be expected from one person to the next and your skin type will play an important role in determining the results of blue-light treatments.

Can blue light cure severe acne as well?

In most cases of moderate to severe cystic acne the blue light itself is not enough to treat the condition. In those cases a prescription solution of a photosensitizing agent called Levulan (5-aminolevulinic acid) is applied to the affected skin. After the solution has been allowed time to absorb into the skin (it typically takes from 1-2 hours) the patient sits under a Blu-U light which activates the Levulan. The result is a reduction of acne lesions and oiliness and in turn produces skin rejuvenation.

This sounds exciting, and it is. However, do not forget to be critical. First of all, according to the FDA, a Levulan/BLU-U treatment does have some potential side effects. These include, but are not limited to: a tingling, stinging, prickling, or burning feeling of the treated areas. These feelings should improve at the end of the blue light treatment and should end within 24 hours.

Following blue light treatment, the surrounding skin, will redden. Swelling may also occur. These changes should reach a maximum the day after BLU-U treatment. However, these changes are temporary, should improve markedly by the end of the first week, and should be completely gone by 4 weeks after treatment. Other side effects at the treatment sites may include: scaling, itching, and changes in skin color.

Second, ask critical questions when you talk to your health care provider about Levulan/BLU-U. For example, the treatment regimen dramatically decreases the production of sebum, but is this really good for your skin overall? It may help relieve acne, but what if sebum is important for your skin in other respects? Does sebum help keep the skins elasticity? Does it play an integral role in the anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties of the skin? Does it prevent your skin from becoming to dry? Does it help protect your skin from the sun? Ask questions, and expect thorough answers. After all, its your skin on the line.

An addition to the arsenal

Blue-light therapy, both by itself and in combination with Levulan, is a very exciting new approach to treating acne. Regardless of skin type or lifestyle, approximately 80% of the population will suffer from acne at some point in their lives. Acne is common in both teens and adults, and effective treatment solutions are in great demand.

BLU-U/Levulan is an exciting addition to the arsenal of those who battle acne regularly. At this point, however, it should not be considered the be all and end all of acne treatment, and both medical and alternative treatments should be considered as well.

Where To Find The Best Zit Remedies

by Dean Iggo

Finding the perfect zit remedies for you in a maze of treatments is not an easy task. More than eight fiver percent of the world population at any given time suffers from a pimple. As a result, billions of dollars are spent each year on zit remedies. Finding the right treatment for you can be tough.

At Home Treatments

For overnight relief, try dabbing plain white toothpaste on the offender. It has a dehydrating effect on the pimple, and it can leave you with a clear face in the morning. Please note that a whitening toothpaste should not be used. Whitening toothpastes contain high levels of hydrogen peroxide, which can severely burn your face. Also, a gel toothpaste will not have the same drying effect that a regular toothpaste would.

Try regularly applying a mask of egg whites to your face. The vitamin A contained in the egg whites is good for your skin. It can help in the class of zit remedies because it can dry out the oils in your skin, keeping new pimples from forming.

Prescription Treatments

For more serious zit remedies, you may have to see your doctor. He can prescribe a topical antibiotic that will kill the bacteria that cause the zits. Watch out, though. Many of these have some pretty serious side effects like birth defects, miscarriages, nausea, and dry, flaky skin.

Photo therapy has also proven a good zit remedy. Working with an acne treatment center, you can go in a few times a week or a month (depending on the severity of your acne) and have pulses of light applied to your face. The process is completely safe, and it has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. There are no side effects, and you don't experience any down time with the procedure. You get good looking skin in just a few weeks.

Quick Acne Treatments

On top of those zit treatments already mentioned there are a number of remedies available online that a 1000's of people have had huge success with. I discuss my top 3 picks in detail on my website quick-acne-treatments.com These remedies have been proven time and time again to product amazing results in a short period of time.

Tips To Selecting The Right Acne Medicine

by Aurel Radulescu

If you suffer from acne, then you are not alone. Every day, people try new acne medicine in the hopes that it will prove to be successful in ridding them of the redness, swelling and discomfort that goes along with the ailment.

The best way to correct this skin problem is to select an acne medicine that carries little or no side effects. Today, many conventional medicines carry side effects that are often worse than the ailment itself. When searching for an acne medicine, whether it be over the counter or prescription, make sure that you understand any potential side effects that may result from its use. It may be difficult to reason with an acne medicine designed to rid you of the discomfort and embarrassment of acne when it, itself, carries a possible side effect of irritation and/or a rash.

The best types of acne medicine will be those that are gentle to the skin and perhaps are even designed for sensitive skin. Always look for a product that is simple to use and understand. It should not promise instant results because, quite simply, there is no miracle cure for acne. There are, however, medications that are designed to treat the ailment. As is the case with any treatment, results will take time. When searching for the right acne medicine, look for one that promises realistic results in a realistic timeframe.

If you are seeing a dermatologist and are receiving prescriptions, make sure that your physician/dermatologist is aware of any current or past medical conditions. Certain illnesses, either past or present, may prevent you from being able to safely use some acne medicines. For instance, women who are pregnant or think they may be pregnant, children and the elderly must be very careful about the medications that they are prescribed or use via over the counter purchases.

A final thought to consider with acne medicine is, in some cases, the offer of a guarantee. This symbolizes a companys belief in their product, which goes a long way in consumer trust. When you do use a product, make sure to use as directed and follow the manufacturers guidelines exactly.

Acne Treatment: 7 Things You Must Know!

by Robin Araoz

Let me ask you this...

Are you suffering from acne?

Do you know what is causing it and is there any effective acne
treatment?

Studies show that an estimated 80 % percent of people experience
acne at some point. No one knows exactly what the cause of acne
is, but there are a few theories.

Lets take a look at 7 of them:

1. Acne normally begins between the ages of eleven and thirteen.

This is true in both males and females due to changes in hormone
levels. These hormones, called androgens, will enlarge the
facial glands. The oil produced by the glands is known as
sebum. The hair follicles shed dead cells too quickly and the
cells and sebum form a blockage in the gland.

2. Pressure and rubbing from tight garments.

Adult with acne should avoid tight-collared shirts that might
irritate the acne further. Adult athletes may notice an outbreak
of acne from equipment such as backpacks or athletic helmets.

3. Acne can also be caused by genetics.

Studies have shown that a family history of acne can affect
whether you have acne and the severity of it. So if your mother
or father had acne as a teen, chances are that it will be a
contributory factor to the cause of your acne.

4. Factors linked to women

Women have several factors that men dont that can be linked to
the cause of acne. Women go through several phases of life that
cause their hormone levels to change. These changes can cause
acne in adult women between two and seven days before their
menstrual cycle.

5. Pregnancy and hormones

Pregnant women also experience a fluctuation in hormones.

Those who may have previously had little or no acne may see
pimples during their pregnancy and for a time after the birth of
the baby until the hormone levels return to normal.

6. Menopause and hormones

Menopause will cause changes in hormone levels for woman and can
be a cause of acne. Women also tend to wear heavy makeup when
experience an acne outbreak, which only worsens the problem by
further clogging pores.

7.Stress.

Especially in adults, stress can be another cause of acne.
When you are stressed, the hormone cortisol is produced.

Cortisol will worsen any acne you already have. To prevent
stress-related acne, try relaxation and meditation.

Some adults experience acne from picking at blemishes on their
skin. You should never pick at or squeeze a pimple, blackhead or
any other blemish on your face.

This can only cause more acne and possibly an infection.
When cleaning your face, avoid harsh facial cleansers(they cause
the creation of more sebum) and scrubbing your
face too vigorously.

Acne treatments

The sad part is that most of the acne products are sold over the
counter for treatment.

Most over-the-counter acne treatments are topical and come in
the form of a cream, soap, lotion or gel.

Acne products normally contain benzoyl peroxide (good for
killing the bacteria and possibly reducing oil production),
sulfur (helps eliminate blackheads and whiteheads) and/or
salicylic acid (cuts down the speed of cell lose).

More severe cases may require prescription acne medicine that is
topical or oral.

Oral acne medication can help reduce both the growth of the
bacteria and inflammation of glands.

Shopping for Sensitive Skin: A Guide for the Acne and Rosacea Conscious

by Naweko San-Joyz

Acne and rosacea patients take note- you must know about proper skin-care and cosmetic usage to successfully manage your sensitive skin. This is the counsel of Dr. Diane Berson, who runs a dermatology practice in New York City.

A critical step in reducing skin sensitivity is understanding the importance of the stratum corneum. The stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the skin and is composed of dead, flat skin cells held together by the protein keratin. This skin barrier prevents molecules from passing into and out of the skin and thereby protects the lower layers of skin while reducing skin sensitivity.

Healthy, uninjured skin is more effective at preventing skin irritations that may result from using cosmetics and skin care products. Individuals with altered nerve endings or more neurotransmitters under their skin are more susceptible to minor skin irritants in cosmetics and skin care products. When the skin is excessively dry or damaged, it cannot adequately protect these nerve endings. Sound moisturizing and a strong immune system help minimize possible skin irritants.

Some of Dr. Bersons recommendations for caring for sensitive skin include:

Selecting mild cleansers.
Use mild cleansing agents that have synthetic detergents or lipid-free cleansers. Resist using abrasive cleansers since they can cause microscopic tears in the skin and damage the protective layers of the skin.

Rosacea patients should not use alcohol-based products such as toners or astringents.

Acne patients will benefit from toners that contain salicylic acid or alpha hydroxy acid. However, when starting a retinoid treatment, temporarily discontinue using a toner or astringent since the combination may make the retinoid more irritating. Acne patients must also limit or abstain from excessively rough cleansing and washing. Julie Harper, M.D., who directs a clinic to treat acne at the University of Alabama at Birmingham laments, "Teenagers think they have acne because they do not wash enough, but usually they are washing too often with harsh scrubs that make their symptoms worse."

Using moisturizers.
Tracy L. Grosick, a key skin care product researcher with Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati says that when the skins moisture barrier is intact, it helps the skin to combat environmental attacks that are encountered on a daily basis. When acne and rosacea patients are using treatments that dry the skin, moisturizers may improve the skins barrier function. Dr. Benson recommends using moisturizers with the least amount of ingredients.

Rosacea patients should choose a moisturizer with only glycerin, petrolatum, or aloe vera, which might be anti-inflammatory.

Acne patients should also stick with products containing the least amount of ingredients.

Using noncomedogenic sunscreens.
Rosacea patients need to use a physical-blocking products containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide because these ingredients will not irritate red, inflamed skin and will provide optimal protection.

Acne patients with oily skin should use noncomedogenic, non-pore clogging, products. Select an alcohol-based or gel-based sunscreen.

Preservatives.
The best preservatives for sensitive skin are those containing parabens like methyl paraben and butyl paraben.

The key to keeping sensitive skin less susceptible to irritation is ensuring the integrity of your stratum corneum, the skins primary defensive barrier. You can start by using a minimalist moisturizer, and noncomedogenic sunscreen.

Tips Acne Care

Can You Cure Acne Overnight?

by Liam Char

If youre suffering from acne, then Im sure you know how easy it is to wish for an overnight cure. But unfortunately, there isnt anything you can do to cure your acne overnight.

However, there are a few things you can do to improve your skin and reduce your acne. Theres no guarantee of how long it will take, but the sooner you start, the sooner you will se results.

So what sort of things can you do to start reducing your acne?

If you have a few pimples that you want to get rid of in a short time frame, then you may be interested in one of the many different over-the-counter spot treatments that are widely available. These products usually contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. These chemicals help to break down the pimple quickly. You can even see results in just a few days in many cases.

Now if you want to get rid of a pimple quickly, you may be tempted to pop it yourself. But this is rarely a good idea. Although it seems counter-intuitive, its better in the long-run to leave them alone. If you want to get rid of a pimple through popping, I suggest that you try an over-the-counter treatment first.

In the long-term, its best to see your doctor about your acne problem. Although they cant cure it for you overnight, they can give you some good advice that will be specific for your skin type. This is usually the best way of getting rid of your acne for good.

But if you dont want to see a doctor about your problem (although you really should) then you should get some gentle cleanser (which you need to use twice a day) and some medicated spot cream to apply afterwards. Just doing these two simple things can help clear your skin to some degree in just a few weeks.

Knowing How Acne Skin Care Products Work

by Low Jeremy

With the growing popularity of different acne skin care products out there, people who have skin diseasesespecially those who are suffering greatly from a skin disorder like acneendlessly search for acne skin care products to solve their skin problem.

But then, due to lack of knowledge and information, more and more people are misled to use products and avail of treatments without consulting a dermatologist or a physician resulting to a more devastating situation.

To avoid mistakes in choosing acne skin care products and treatments, it is very important to have the knowledge about general cause of acne, its types, the age of the patient, current status or acne condition, so you know what are the products appropriate for each kind and avoid possible allergic reactions.

AN ARRAY ACNE SKIN CARE PRODUCTS

Most dermatologists would agree that the use of acne skin care product should depend on the kind of acne the person has developed. Since cleansing the skin is the first step in treating acne, the first thing the patient need to consider when looking for acne skin care products is finding a good cleanser that is effective and works fast.

The Active Cleansing Gelwhich contains triple exfoliating action of salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and lactic acidis one of the most recommended acne cleansers today because this acne skin care product helps you clean your skin without deeply exfoliating it.

For those who are treating their acne for the first time, acne kits are quite reliable. When looking for acne kits make sure that you look for those that have products containing benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, and glycolic acid. These active ingredients are usually customized for individual skin care needs and medications.

Another popular source of acne skin care products is from Acne Clearz. Free from DHEA and fragrance, the product in this line are recommended for the consumption of teenagers and adults as well. Containing hydroxyl, superior oil production ingredients, and anti-oxidant protectors, these acne skin care products are also recommended for those who have sensitive skin.

Another recommended option is acne skin care products from Acne Control Thera Line. Featuring products that are physician-formulated, the products are known to have sebum protection and oil control that are good acne bacteria destroyers while they remove dead skin cells through safe exfoliation.

Like the others, the major components of the products are benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and sulfur. The effect is expected to be visible as early as six weeks.

Other effective acne skin care products also include topical treatmentswhich usually offer products that are known for destroying acne bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses in the areas affected.

These products are also known to be formulated with highly concentrated ingredients include zinc oxide, iron oxide, sulfur, sodium chloride, poyethylene glycol and magnesium stearate that are good in moisturizing the skin.

If your acne is in its fully-developed stage and there is a need for you to use accutane acne products, make sure that you are constantly monitored by your dermatologist or by the doctor who prescribed your medication to prevent possible injuries.

Best Skin Care Product For Acne On Market

Acne: Natural Hot Pepper Face Wash May Cure Acne

by Hector Milla

Nearly 60 million Americans experience bouts of acne, and more than 20 million of them end up with acne which may cause scarring. There are many remedies for acne and currently a company created another one, the worlds first chili pepper based face wash that has guaranteed to wipe out acne within a few short days, and without the burning sensation associated with hot peppers.

A great part of remedies work, however, they take weeks and even months to make any noticeable difference. A lot of these products are also mixed with chemicals; they are expensive and generally require a daily regimen.

Capsaicin, the active element in hot peppers has been shown to be an inportant acne fighter. According to experts, it works through a thermal heat action that helps to open pores and increase blood flow to the surface of the skin. Capsaicin has powerful antimicrobial properties that help distinguish harmful bacteria that's hiding within the layers of skin.

Capsaicin also helps to desensitize sensitive skin by affecting a series of tiny nerves. Capsaicin may also be beneficial for relieving chronic topical pain associated with certain circulatory conditions.

The golden product is called Capsiderm. Unlike arthritis creams -designed to relieve chronic muscle and joint pain- this new product is designed specifically to fight acne and tighten wrinkled lines on skins surface.

There are immediate results within the first day or two of use. According to the company, most acne conditions will disappear completely within the first week even severe cases.

How Long Does It Really Take For An Acne Remedy To Work?

by Tim Gorman

To wake up and find a huge pimple on his or her nose or in another very prominent spot is every teenagers worst nightmare. For them it is the absolute end of the world and they couldnt imagine a worse thing.

Unfortunately for them it could get a whole lot worse. One word is guaranteed to send shivers down every teenagers back: Acne.

For any teenager who suffers from severe acne, the condition can be even more devastating that an occasional pimple. Severe acne, we are talking about the kind bad enough for a person to seek out medical advice, is reported to strike about 40 percent of the population. Teenage boys tend to get severe acne much more than girls, but the condition is equally damaging to both and can cause both psychological and physical scars.

Acne is a particularly cruel condition that attacks its victims on 3 different levels:

1) It makes them feel awkward and self-conscious as the breakouts occur.

2) It can make them the centre of jesting, joking and ridicule from their peers.

3) It can leave scars that will act as a permanent reminder for the rest of their lives of the condition that embarrassed and humiliated them years in the past. These can have a deep psychological effect on the sufferer even in adulthood.

Avoiding the effects of acne isnt always possible, but there are definitely things that can help. For the average acne sufferer simple over the counter medications are all thats needed to do the trick, but even then, trying to figure out which one and how long to try it for can be a chore in itself.

If you are a teenager or the parent of a distressed teenager who is facing acne for the first time or are just facing their first breakout thats bad enough to warrant medicine, there are a few rules to help making choosing an over the counter acne remedy:

Heres what to do:

The first thing that you need to do is pick a medicine. Whether the treatment is a cream, gel or pad, you must go with the one that has the least amount of medicine first. If benzoyl peroxide is the chosen medication, pick one that has a concentration of about 2.5 percent. Dont choose one over that limit. As long as the medication doesnt cause severe drying or irritation, keep using it for about two months.

Next, when two months have passed, examine the situation. If the medication seems to have worked, keep using it. If not, try a higher dose. Two months may seem like a long time but this will give the treatment a real chance to do its stuff.

 Rinse and repeat.

If the over the counter remedies, even at higher doses, show no signs of working, its probably time to enlist professional help. Going to a doctor for acne is a sensible thing to do if all else is failing. The doctor will be familiar with all of the current drugs available for severe acne sufferers and will prescribe one to suit you. Dont panic. In the majority of cases your acne will clear with over the counter products.

Remember, if everything youve tried hasnt worked, a doctor might have the solution. Treating acne is highly personalized and not all medicines will work for every person all of the time. What a doctor can offer may take time to work. Your doctor will be able to monitor your condition and adjust the medication to suit you.
